“Secret Service agents met and began planning what to do if former President Donald Trump is indicted … and the judge … decides to send him to prison for a short time,” the media outlet revealed, citing its sources.
Officials are said to be planning for contingencies, not knowing for sure whether Trump will be put in a cell. The channel reports that the Secret Service declined to comment on specific plans for the matter.
A hearing on the falsification of business records case against Donald Trump was held in New York court on Monday. Prosecutors allege that Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, paid porn star Stormy Daniels (real name Stephanie Clifford) $130,000 in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election. The actress was allegedly paid to keep quiet about her affair with Trump, which Daniels says happened in 2006 after they met at a celebrity golf tournament. Trump denies the porn star’s claims.
Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with payments to two women. The maximum possible sentence on all charges against Trump is 136 years in prison. The former US president himself pleaded “innocent” and announced that there were no grounds for a lawsuit. Trump believes that the accusation is only politically motivated and is related to his intention to fight for the presidency in 2024.
