Today marks 100 years since the founding of “Eter”. On April 24, 1924, a general assembly of football figures was convened in the building of the then Girls’ High School (now the Faculty of Fine Arts in the center). The aim is to unite the already existing clubs in the city. Everyone is “for”, and only the name of the future club – “Yantra”, “Orlov Vrah” or “Eter” – is causing controversy. After heated arguments, the opinion prevailed that the club should be named after the Slavic name of the river Yantra.
The centuries-old history of the club is full of successes, the highlight of which is the championship title in 1991, as well as the won cups of the PFL and the BFS, participation in European tournaments and other international appearances. Another serious reason for pride is the fact that “Eter” gave five national players for the greatest success of Bulgarian football – the fourth place in USA-94.
In 2014, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the building where “Eter” was established, a commemorative plaque was unveiled, on which flowers are now placed every April 24. And today, the tradition will be observed, as at 10 a.m. football figures and fans will present bouquets. However, the big celebration of the anniversary is tomorrow at the “Ivaylo” stadium with a rich program starting at 4 p.m., which will continue until late in the evening. The climax is at 7 p.m., when the champion “Eter” plays against the Peneva team. The full program of events – in tomorrow’s issue!
