China has warned that US military support for Taiwan only increases the “risk of conflict” along the strait. The statement came after the US Congress allocated 8 billion dollars for military support to the island, reported AFP.

“I would like to emphasize that strengthening military ties between the US and Taiwan will not bring security to Taiwan,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said.

“This will only increase tensions and the risk of conflict across the Taiwan Strait, and ultimately be an act of shooting yourself in the foot,” Wang warned.
On April 23, the US Congress finally approved a $95 billion aid package for allies including Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
Taipei: Aid ensures peace
Taiwan’s incoming president Lai Ching-te said the aid package would “strengthen deterrence against authoritarianism” and “guarantee peace”.

Beijing, which has said it will never back down from using force to bring the island under its control, warned of “resolute and effective measures to protect its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity”.
Closer military aid cannot “save the doomed fate of Taiwan independence,” Wang said.
“The United States must stop arming Taiwan, stop creating new tensions in the Taiwan Strait, and stop threatening the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait,” he added.
