Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will meet today in Ankara, Anadolu Agency reports.

Steinmeier arrived this week on a visit to Turkey at the invitation of Erdogan. On Monday he visited Istanbul, and yesterday he was in Gaziantep.

During the meeting of the two heads of state in Beştepe Presidential Palace today, bilateral relations between Turkey and Germany will be discussed in all their aspects and options for further development of cooperation between the two countries will be discussed. The crisis in the Gaza Strip and other developments in the Middle East, the war between Ukraine and Russia, relations between Turkey and the European Union, as well as other global and regional issues, will be discussed, reports the Directorate of Communications of the Turkish Presidency.

After the bilateral talks, the presidents will hold a joint press conference.

Yesterday, Steinmeier visited the city of Gaziantep, which was affected by the devastating earthquakes in February. He met with the governor of the district, Kemal Cheber, and with the mayor of the city, Fatma Sahin, Hurriyet reported.

During the visit to Gaziantep, a protest was organized against Steinmeier. About a hundred demonstrators joined the protest, raising Palestinian flags and chanting anti-Steinmeier slogans.

The President of Germany visited an elementary school in the city, after which he went to the town of Nurdag, which practically collapsed during the devastating earthquakes of 2018. Steinmeier visited a container town where the remaining homeless people still live.
