In North Macedonia, 1,814,317 voters will vote for a new president of the country today. These are the seventh presidential elections in the RSM and they have a record number of candidates – seven.

In the 20-day election campaign, which in recent days overlapped with the election campaign for the parliamentary elections, Stevo Pendarovski (SDSM), Gordana Siljanovska (VMRO-DPMNE), Stevcho Yakimovski (GROM), Buyar Osmani (DSI), Bilyana Vankovska ( Left), Arban Taravari (coalition of Albanian opposition parties “Deserves”) and Maksim Dimitrievski (ZNAM) held only one general debate. One of the main topics in the campaign was changes to the constitution as a condition in the country’s negotiating framework with the EU.

Voting will be held in 3,480 polling stations across the country. The State Election Commission has issued accreditations for 915 local, 544 international observers and 58 foreign journalists.

The election day starts at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 7:00 p.m. local time, and by government decision the day is declared a non-working day.

The candidate who won an absolute majority of the total number of voters entered in the electoral roll is considered elected in the first round of the presidential elections. If this condition is not met, the two presidential candidates who have the most votes go to a second round of elections, which will be held together with the parliamentary elections on May 8.
