Fishermen from the Southern Black Sea requested that the three-month ban on white clam fishing be dropped or that the ban period be limited to 1 month.

The ban takes effect on May 1.

Nearly 100 people, representatives of fishing associations and employees of fish processing enterprises from Nessebar to Tsarevo, protested in front of the building of the Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture in Burgas.

In a complaint to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, they sent their requests.

The order banning white clam fishing from May 1 to July 31 was posted on the website of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Executive Agency. It was issued on April 16 by the Acting Minister of Agriculture and Food, Georgi Tahov. The protesting fishermen want the order revoked.

The order can be appealed in court, IARA management said. Deputy director Hristo Panayotov:

“Currently, the appeal period is running and it can be appealed administratively and, accordingly, if the court deems it illegal, be canceled.”
