The journalist Dimitar Stoyanov from BIRD has been charged with threats to kill and hooliganism, SDVR Director Chief Commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov told journalists.

He said that on April 22, a scandal was reported to the Metropolitan Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on “Vasil Petleshkov” street in the “Hadji Dimitar” district of the capital. The 40-year-old man who called 112 said he was threatened with a weapon and feared for his life.

After an investigation, it was established that the possible perpetrator was Dimitar Stoyanov. He was requested by phone to report to the Fifth District Office. Stoyanov stated that he first had to be examined in “Pirogov”. After the examination, he was detained for 24 hours.

The director of SDVR stated that according to initial data, the cause of the conflict was a parking space on the street.

Stoyanov’s wife also filed a complaint with the Fifth District Office.

The full recording from the security camera in the case has been confiscated by the authorities, Nikolov pointed out.

The police also indicated that Stoyanov has a permit to possess a weapon. As of now, his gun has been confiscated.

There was no sign of aggression from the other person involved in the conflict, authorities added.

“Real journalists do not change the truth to make it convenient for personal or foreign interests. Real journalists do not walk around with pistols in their pockets and do not attack people. The journalist’s weapon is the truth,” commented the head of the National Narcotics Agency Rumen Spetsov in his position on the case .
