The former Minister of Finance Asen Vassilev is heard in the Temporary Commission for the investigation of corruption practices in the “Customs” Agency. Also present at the meeting were Georgi Gospodinov and Nikolay Petkov – employees of the “Customs” Agency. The two were adamant that they never saw Marin and Stefan Dimitrovi at the “Captain Andreevo” and “Lesovo” border checkpoints, nor do they know that the two had any communication with customs officers there, “Darik” reports.
Gospodinov pointed out that the results of the work of the employees of “Captain Andreevo” are indisputable.
“For three years, we managed to build a positive image of Captain Andreevo, which is evident from the results. We didn’t come here to brag, but they’ve been on the rise for the past 3 years,” he said.
Konstantin Bachiyski asked if they had heard the names of father and son Dimitrovi and “this notorious Pascal” at the checkpoints. Gospodinov replied: “During the performance of our official duties, we did not become aware that such persons were engaged in smuggling activities, even more so, that this was the work of other services.”
“These persons (note editor Stefan and Marin Dimitrovi) have not visited the Ministry of Finance. I have not personally met them. This was also said by the new acting Minister of Finance when she was here,” Asen Vasilev pointed out.
And he explained how the entry into the building of the Ministry of Finance and additionally – into the office of the current minister happens.
“He must be enrolled in my program. You all know – the chance of someone entering my office without being in my program and without being agreed with the head of my office is zero. The second – the door is ajar. Someone must open the door. In the Ministry of Finance, there are cameras at the entrance, on the staircase and those that look directly at the door of my office,” Vassilev explained to the deputies, quoted by novini.bg
“We have heard from DANS that these individuals have been monitored since 2022 as participants in a potential channel. If so, DANS should have records of who they met with and how,” he added, calling claims that Stefan and Marin Dimitrovi visited the building of the Ministry of Finance “fabricated information”.
We remind you that the former Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Zhivko Kotsev, was brought in as a defendant for participation in an organized criminal group, part of which are the former head of the “Customs” Agency, Petya Bankova, Marin and Stefan Dimitrovi, and in absentia – Nikola Nikolov, nicknamed Pascal. Bankova has also been charged.
