The mayors of the 11 municipalities of the Montana region issued orders to introduce preventive measures against the spread of bird flu, or the so-called bird flu, the regional governor of Montana Ivaylo Antonov told BTA.

The decision was taken after a meeting of the epizootic commission in the Montana Regional Administration. The meeting was held in connection with the outbreaks of bird flu in the country and the order issued by the executive director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, Dr. Svetlozar Patarinski, with measures to stop the spread of the infection.

These orders impose bans on holding markets for the sale of birds and their transportation. The free release of poultry on the streets and in public places is prohibited. They must be kept in enclosures that do not allow contact with other wild representatives. Poultry of different species should be kept separately, and local veterinarians should be notified immediately if the mortality of birds in a farm increases. In the case of an already established outbreak, animals must not be kept in the facility for at least 21 days, for the purpose of cleaning and disinfection.

The police is entrusted with the control of compliance with the restrictions.

So far, there has been no outbreak of bird flu in the Montana region, Ivaylo Antonov said for BTA.
