Postpone higher household electricity prices

For one more year, household electricity prices will be determined by KEVR.

Higher household electricity prices and the entry of households into the free electricity market will be delayed by one year. The Energy Committee of the Parliament adopted in the second reading changes to the Law on Energy, which propose from July 1, 2025 to start the transition period in which the electricity distribution companies will buy electricity at market prices and sell it to households at fixed rates determined by the Parliament or by the Council of Ministers.

The Energy Commission also adopted a Road Map for climate neutrality. It foresees that by 2030, 1.6 gigawatts of power generation capacity from offshore fins will be installed, and by 2040 these capacities will reach 6.6 gigawatts. The roadmap was supported despite objections from fishermen and the tourism industry to putting fins in the sea.

The MPs also decided that BGN 200 million will be given annually to “Mini Maritsa-East” for the period 2024-2029 for the reclamation of the grounds.
