Four Bulgarians will start today in the first day of the European Judo Championships for men and women in Zagreb.

Yanislav Gerchev starts with the Ukrainian Mikita Holoborodko in the 66-kilogram category.

In the category up to 57 kg there will be two native representatives. Ivelina Ilieva will face Hasret Bozkurt (Turkey), and Snezhana Gramatikova will have Kaya Kaiser (Slovakia), fifth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, as her opponent.

Gabriela Dimitrova will argue with Sofia Asvesta (Cyprus) in the 52-kilogram category.

427 competitors from 47 countries have applied for the championship. Bulgaria is represented by 11 judokas – 7 for men and 4 for women. Thursday’s scrimmages start at 11:30 a.m.

On Friday at 11:00 a.m., Joanna Manova (63 kg), as well as Mark Hristov and Denislav Ivanov in the 73-kilogram category and Georgi Gramatikov in the 81 kg category will compete on the mat.

On Saturday at 11:30 are the fights in the heavy categories. Then Ivaylo Ivanov (90 kg) will start, as well as Daniel Dichev and Boris Georgiev in the 100 kg category.

The championship concludes on Sunday with the mixed team competition.
