In the US state of Arizona, 18 people have been indicted in connection with an attempt to change the results of the 2020 presidential election in favor of the former head of state, Donald Trump, the state’s attorney general announced, as quoted by France Press and BTA.
The indictment alleges that there was a conspiracy to award US Electoral College votes, which are used every four years to elect a new president, in favor of Donald Trump in this state, which in 2020 was won by a narrow lead over Joe Biden. Arizona’s attorney general said the case involved 11 local Republicans, as well as seven out-of-state.
According to the Washington Post, the seven include Donald Trump’s former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, attorneys Jenna Ellis and John Eastman, campaign adviser Boris Epstein and Rudy Giuliani (the latter is a former personal attorney for Donald Trump and former mayor of New York).
No charges have been brought against the former president, but he has been listed as unaccountable accompliceaccording to the Washington Post.
Joe Biden had won this southwestern state by just over 10,000 votes ahead of the billionaire, but many representatives of the Republican Party believed, without evidence, that there had been fraud and that Donald Trump was the winner, recalls AFP.
Arizona has become the fourth state, after Michigan, Georgia and Nevada, to take legal action against people who tried to form an alternative list of Electoral College representatives, which determines the US president.
