This is when pregnant women should be immunized against whooping cough

Pregnant women in their last trimester could be immunized if they are concerned that they will not be able to protect the newborn until two months of age, when the first regular immunization begins. This was said by Dr. Kalcheva, director of the health inspection at bTV.

According to her, people are already coming for reimmunization, which is done with the same vaccine that is given at the age of 12.

“Yesterday, the first grandmother-to-be came, who is worried that she could infect her grandchild. With us, we perform immunizations that are for persons who are not on the immunization calendar for a fee, while all the mandatory immunizations according to the calendar are performed at private doctors” , added Dr. Kalcheva.

Dr. Kalcheva reminds how important is the responsibility of personal doctors, but also of parents.

“GPs can postpone immunizations for children up to three months after they reach the appropriate age. Parents very often postpone immunizations themselves, they think that the children are not old enough and come up with all sorts of reasons. We work with GPs as much as possible to use all mechanisms to contact the parents and immunize in a short period of time all children with missed immunizations against whooping cough”, called Dr. Kalcheva.
