The prime minister made the stunning announcement after a Spanish court said it was opening a preliminary investigation into his wife, Begona Gomez, for influence peddling and corruption. The investigation is secret and preliminary and began after a complaint filed by the anti-corruption organization Clean Hands, whose leader is linked to the far right.
