The top Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov recalled details of his only victory against world number one Novak Djokovic at the Masters tournament in the Spanish capital, Madrid, back in 2013.

“I remember that match. I arrived early in Madrid and stayed in some extremely questionable hotel. And then, when I found out that I would have to play Novak, I thought: “Okay, we’ll see. The time has come.” I wanted to win so I could earn some money and move to another hotel. Yes, that’s how I remember it. I like to raise my own level in such situations, especially in matches with Novak,” said Dimitrov, quoted by Tennis TV.

Djokovic and Dimitrov met in the second round of the Masters in Madrid in 2013, with the Bulgarian winning 7:6 (8:6), 6:7 (8:10), 6:3 in favor of the Bulgarian tennis player.

The Bulgarian is ranked number 9 in the scheme of this year’s edition of the tournament and will start from the second round, where he will meet the winner of the match between the German Janik Hanfmann (No. 58 in the ATP world ranking) and the Czech Jakub Menšik (No. 74).
