Now, days before the start of the Madrid Masters 11 years later, Grigor was asked about that match. He shared his memories, which included staying in a “dubious hotel.”

“It was quite a few years ago, and I remember being in a somewhat dodgy hotel. I had to play Djokovic and I was like, ‘okay, I have to earn some money and change hotels. It was a very good experience. It was full of people and I was in very good shape and very pumped. The match was incredible,” Grisho recalled in the interview.

“The feeling of the successes I have been achieving recently is wonderful. I enjoy being able to win against extremely good players”

“Perhaps part of my success in the past months is precisely because I have no expectations. I’m not even putting them down, I just don’t have any. I just have to be the best version of myself on a physical and mental level. Everything depends on this and there are no other options,” says Grigor.

However, he admits that he does not have enough time to enjoy what he has achieved, as the next challenges await him.

“I try to use these little moments when I’m out of the sport. I continue to work hard and look for success,” added Grisho.

For the Bulgarian, his second round match in the competition is coming up. He will face either the German Yannick Hanfma or the Czech Jakub Mensik.

And in the days before the start of his participation, Grigor sweated hard – in his preparation he even played a training match with Sebastian Korda, who after the end asked Grisho for a photo together.
