Blockade in Sofia: The protest of energy workers and miners has begun – Around the world and in our country

A protest of energy workers and miners blocked the center of Sofia before noon. The national rally was organized by KNSB and KT “Podkrepa” to postpone the liberalization of the electricity market and in defense of those working in energy and coal mining.

The protest is taking place in front of the buildings of the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers.

Workers at the “Maritsa Iztok” complex, “Bobov dol” TPP, “Brickel” TPP and “Toplofikatsia-Pernik” are taking part in the rally. Energy and miners are demanding that coal plants continue to operate even after the liberalization of the electricity market.

“What does the liberalization of the domestic consumer market mean – this, dear viewers, means paying the European electricity prices with your Bulgarian income. It is quite clear that this is an overwhelming task for us. There would be a law for the energy poor, whatever postponements, all kinds of tricks and grips. None of that is available,” said Rostislav Rashev.

“Once again, we are here and we will continue to be here until our demands are satisfied and let the whole of Bulgaria understand that we are not only protecting mining labor, but the whole of Bulgaria in order to have energy independence and national security”. said Darina Koleva.

“The mines in Pernik were closed some time ago, now the thermal power plant is the main one that supplies electricity and heat in Pernik. If it is also closed, then the region will also suffer,” Stefan Marinov is emphatic.

The protest lasted nearly two hours. Energy companies and miners insist on a guaranteed purchase by the state of the electricity produced by them, as well as an adequate energy strategy. According to them, not a single point of the previous government’s promise to them in October has been achieved. The space in the triangle of power remains closed, and the energy workers are adamant that they will continue the action until they are heard.
