The National Vocational High School of Printing and Photography is celebrating its 100th anniversary this evening with a celebration in Hall 3 of the National Palace of Culture (NDK), the school reports.
Its beginning is associated with the name of Alexander Bogdanov Makedonski from the city of Sliven. In 1923, he was appointed director of the State Printing House in Sofia. Getting to know the working conditions of the workers, he came to the conclusion that production requires people with professional knowledge. Thus, Makedonski began preparations for the creation of a vocational school. In the fall of 1923, the State Secondary Graphic School for Typography and Graphic Arts opened its doors at the State Printing House, according to the website of the NPGPF.
Since 1998, the school has been called the National Vocational High School of Printing and Photography, being the only one in Bulgaria for training personnel in the fields of printing, photography, visual arts, techniques and technologies, and production of media products.
Today, a total of six majors are studied at the National University of Applied Sciences. The school is currently working on a photo restoration project under the Erasmus program, and recently completed a project on digitizing the school’s photo archive.
A contract for long-term cooperation between the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) and the National Vocational School of Printing and Photography (NPGPF) was concluded on April 24. The agreement, in addition to voluntary internships, regulates the publication of NGPF materials and the coverage of their events and initiatives.
The National Vocational High School of Polygraphy and Photography is the fifth vocational school with which BTA concludes a partnership agreement, after the agreements with the National April High School in Gabrovo, the National High School for Ancient Languages and Cultures “St. Konstantin-Kyril the Philosopher”, French School “Victor Hugo” and the Sofia Theological Seminary.
