Tyson Fury (34:0:1) enters the final stages of his preparation for the fight with Oleksandr Usyk (21:0) on May 18 in Riyadh, where the two will broadcast the new undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. It’s common knowledge that each of them has a guaranteed rematch clause, but the sport has changed so much in the past few years that politics have begun to take a backseat to spectacle. This is mainly due to Sheikh Turki Alalshik. It was his idea to see a new contender for the undisputed status in the person of Anthony Joshua (28:3) in September.
“AJ” himself revealed in an interview with Boxing TV that he had spoken to the sheikh about this topic. He has advised him to prepare for September, presumably wanting to pit him against the “Gypsy King” should the Brit triumph with the five major belts.
Joshua was on the verge of unifying all the titles in 2019 when Fury was just returning from rehab, but then came that shock match against Andy Ruiz in New York when Anthony suffered his first career loss.
