Run-off in North Macedonia after the first round of the presidential elections. Gordana Siljanovska – Davkova, nominated by VMRO-DPMNE, and the current president Stevo Pendarovski, supported by the Social Democratic Union, go to the second round of the elections on May 8.

With 100 percent of the ballots processed, Siljanovska received 40.8% of the votes and Pendarovski – 19.93%. Voter turnout on yesterday’s election day was almost 50 percent.

Gordana Siljanovska – Davkova has a convincing lead over Stevo Pendarovski, but failed to pass the 50 percent mark to win in the first round of the presidential elections. The opposition candidate did not hide his surprise in front of his supporters who celebrated the result on the streets of Skopje.

“Honestly, I didn’t expect such a big difference,” she admitted.

Later at the headquarters of VMRO-DPMNE, Gordana Silyanovska – Davkova stated that the result was very inspiring for her and that she will treat her opponent with respect, against whom she will face in the runoff.

“I am proud of the citizens – not only of those who voted for me, but also of all the others. I am especially proud of the members of VMRO-DPMNE for their support,” said Gordana Silyanovska Davkova, candidate of VMRO-DPMNE.

President Stevo Pendarovski, who is running for a second term, did not hide his disappointment, but also expressed his determination to fight to the end.

“We are again going to meetings with citizens, as we have done before. And we are starting practically from scratch. We have met an excellent reception for what we believe in. I expect support from more citizens on May 8”, pointed out Stevo Pendarovski, president of RSM and candidate of SDSM .

Third, with 13%, is Foreign Minister Buyar Osmani, nominated by the “European Front” coalition, led by the largest Albanian party DSI.

On May 8, along with the second round of the presidential elections in North Macedonia, there will be a vote for the country’s parliament.
