With 429 votes “for” and 27 “against”, the European Parliament voted a resolution against Russian interference. MPs are expressing outrage at “credible allegations” that members of parliament were being paid to spread Russian propaganda.

In the wake of revelations that an AfD MEP was paid by Kremlin agents and the subsequent arrest of his aide on charges of spying for China, parliament is demanding the German far-right immediately go public with its financial ties to Russia.

Concern is also expressed about Russian attempts to interfere in the upcoming early parliamentary elections in Bulgaria on June 9, as well as about the numerous properties of Russian bodies in the country.

The resolution also calls for the Council to include the Kremlin-backed media responsible for propaganda and disinformation campaigns in the European Union with the upcoming 14th package of sanctions against Russia.
