57-year-old Abil A. will be in prison for life for murdering the woman he lived with.
The Varna Court of Appeal upheld a verdict of the Shumen District Court, by which a man was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of the woman he was with
lived on a family basis.
Abil A. committed the crime in a particularly painful way, with great cruelty and under the conditions of domestic violence, he requested a reduction of the sentence.
The man lived with the victim Silvia S., who was 14 years older than him, in the village of Chernoglavtsi.
He often consumed alcohol in large quantities, after which he showed physical aggression towards the woman. She repeatedly left the family home and took shelter with relatives, but then returned to Abil, who promised her that he would not beat her again.
On November 7, 2022, in public in front of a witness, however, he punched her several times, accusing her of cheating.
The two returned to their home, where the aggression escalated and he began to beat her again. He hit her on the head and body with his fists and feet, with a tongs for a fireplace, cut her ear, burned her body with a cigarette.
At different time intervals, Abil A. entered the room where the 69-year-old victim was lying. Although he noticed that her condition was deteriorating, he did not seek medical help. Aware of the severity of the injuries and the possibility of death, he locked the house with a chain and padlock as a sign that there were no people inside and left the village, the press center of the prosecutor’s office reports.
Five days later, Sylvia’s lifeless body was discovered by his minor son.
The defendant was searched, identified and detained.
The woman’s autopsy found multiple multiple trauma injuries, including multiple broken ribs.
Immediate cause of death was severe head injury.
The physical evidence seized, the conclusions of the appointed experts leave no room for doubt about the volume, intensity, means and stages of the violence and its authorship.
The defendant was fully aware of the consequences of the multiple blows to the victim’s vital organs, changed the means by which he caused her pain and continued to abuse her naked body.
During their 3-year cohabitation, he systematically beat her and took money from her pension to buy alcohol.
The defendant was convicted twice, including for attempted murder.
