The Sofia City Court did not proceed with the preliminary hearing in the case of the accident in which 15-year-old Filip Arsov lost his life. The reason is that Natsko Doichev, lawyer for the relatives of the dead boy, cannot attend the meeting today due to work commitments, BTA reported.

The case was adjourned and scheduled for May 23. The court appointed lawyer Doichev to prove his professional commitment in the District Court – Stara Zagora.

The defendant Petar Todorov came to the courtroom with his lawyer Kapka Gerginova. After his initial arrest, he was remanded under house arrest.

The prosecutor’s office and Todorov’s defense supported the relatives’ request to postpone the case due to the absence of their lawyer, who should represent them in court.

Lawyer Gerginova commented to the media that there are vices in the case against her client. She indicated that, in her view, the legal qualification that the crime was committed was not correct. According to her, Todorov is deeply suffering for what happened.

The mother of the dead boy, Nikolina Petkova, pointed out that everything shows that the crime was committed with intent. She added that she expects the case to be long and grueling. Petkova expressed hope that our society would wake up so that there would be no more blackened parents.

The serious accident happened around 9:15 p.m. on September 2 of this year. Then the student from the capital’s First English High School walked along the footpath at the intersection of “Gurko” and “Shishman” streets. 37-year-old Todorov was driving a Mercedes car. The man did not stop at all and hit the boy, who died on the spot after the impact. Todorov, in whose car there was a young woman with a child, was detained and charged with causing death after intentionally violating traffic rules.

According to the investigation, the 37-year-old driver had enough time and visibility to react to avoid the accident. Petar Todorov drove after consuming alcohol, the result of the sample was 2.1 per thousand. He stated that he drank six beers before he got into driving. According to expertise, the man was driving nearly 60 km/h over the limit in the section where the permitted speed is 30 km/h. The driver also admitted to a witness in the case that he accelerated to cross the pedestrian crossing before Philip.

Before the hearing, citizens and relatives of the dead boy gathered in front of the Courthouse in the capital. Some of them held placards that read: “Make road safety a state policy” and “Life imprisonment for road murders”.
