18 people from the campaign staff of the 45th US President Donald Trump have been accused of submitting a document to Congress that falsely claimed that Trump had won the 2020 Arizona election.

“Justice demands a response to the efforts the defendants and other unconvicted accomplices took to undermine the will of Arizona voters during the 2020 presidential election. Arizona’s election was free and fair.” The people of Arizona elected President Biden. Unwilling to accept this fact, the defendants indicted by a state grand jury allegedly conspired to prevent the legal transfer of the presidency. Whatever their motives, the conspiracy to violate the law must be answered,” said Arizona Attorney General Chris Mays.

Those indicted include Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, the former chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, as well as the 2022 Senate candidate and two sitting state lawmakers. They are charged with conspiracy, fraud and forgery. Trump himself has not been charged, but has been named as an accomplice.

I know I will be criticized for even doing this investigation. But as I have stated before, I will not allow American democracy to be undermined.

Chris Mace, Attorney General of Arizona:

Trump has argued that he cannot be prosecuted for actions he took while president. This week, the United States Supreme Court will hear arguments in his bid to avoid federal prosecution.
