The Spanish prosecutor’s office announced that it wants to drop the corruption case against the wife of the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. This caused him to announce that he was considering resigning.
The prosecution stated that they were protested the decision of a Madrid court from Wednesday to consider a private lawsuit by anti-corruption activists against the prime minister’s wife Begonya Gomez for influence peddling and corruption. She herself has not publicly commented on the case.
The Spanish anti-corruption organization Manos Limpias (“Clean Hands”), which is behind the claim, said earlier that it based its claim on media reports and could not guarantee their credibility.

Sanchez, who secured another term last year at the head of a minority coalition governmentled by his Spanish Socialist Party, wrote a surprise letter to his compatriots in which he said he was taking five days off and would announce his decision on whether to remain in charge of the country on Monday. He criticized the lawsuit against his wife, calling it “unprecedented defamation and harassment by the right and the far right.”
In his letter, Sanchez categorically denies the allegations against Begoña Gomez.
