The Burgas Court of Appeal overruled the decision of the Yambol District Court and issued a restraining order “cash guarantee” in the amount of BGN 10,000 each against Grigor G. and Stoiko K. They are accused of participating in an organized criminal group led by Mr. Valev, under -known as Dinko of Yambol.
They were arrested earlier this week following an investigation into extorting owners of crashed vehicles. The group, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior, operated in the period October 2021 – April 2024.
The appellate court accepted that there was evidence of illegal behavior on the part of the accused, but the evidence available during the pre-trial proceedings was not sufficient to justify detention in custody. There is also no evidence of actual behavior aimed at hiding or committing another crime. According to the appellate instance, the purpose of detention measures can be sufficiently achieved with a lighter detention measure for each of them.
The appellate court found that the measure of remand “cash guarantee” for each of them is adequate to the charges raised, the evidence collected and the defendants themselves.
Since materials collected by special intelligence tools were attached to the case, the court session was held behind closed doors.
According to informed sources, the prosecutor has already charged Dinko Valev as the leader of the criminal structure. This happened in one of the Burgas hospitals, where the “migrant hunter” has been receiving treatment for nearly a week.
