“There is a tendency in local elections to have a large number of invalid votes cast in the elections for municipal councilors. Therefore, our awareness campaign will now focus on explaining to the voter that when he wishes to vote for a party or coalition, with a paper ballot, he must first vote in the box with the party or coalition number for the vote to be valid his. If he wishes to mark a preference, only then mark it in the circle with the number of the candidate he has chosen.”

This is what Rositsa Mateva, the deputy chairman and spokesperson of the CEC, told Euronews Primetime.

Our campaign will aim to make the voter understand that they should first vote in the box with the party or coalition number.

The Deputy Chairman of the CEC also commented that no need to purchase additional flash drives for upcoming elections.

“There is no company that maintains the machines. There are two companies that have supplied the machines and accordingly warranty these machines as a set of devices. Flash drives are, to some degree, consumable anyway. The Central Election Commission carried out such a check on the flash drives. They have 10,000 cycles of use, so they can continue to be used for a long time. For the moment, there is no need to buy new flash drives,” Mateva said.
