The blind man died 7 months later

Insufficiently well-described factual circumstances became the reason for the District Court in Plovdiv to return to the prosecutor’s office the indictment against Metin Mehmedov from Krichim, facing Themida for an accident with death on the road between the city and the village of Ustina.

The incident happened on August 2 of this year. According to the state indictment, Mehmedov was driving an Opel Astra car, entered a turn and hit Dimitar Pepelanov, 34, who was running to the right. He was driving after using amphetamine, and he also has previous drug convictions. The victim was taken to hospital in serious condition. He suffered a diffuse brain injury, lung contusion and numerous other injuries. Pepelanov died on February 2 this year.

In August, two courts left the driver in custody. During the first remand hearing, it became clear that he initially tried to mislead the police. He explained that his girlfriend was driving.

Metin Mehmedov pleaded not guilty and together with his lawyer Orlin Tarnovaliiski requested that the case proceed according to the general procedure with the questioning of witnesses. Judge Momchil Naydenov, however, returned the indictment because, according to him, many of the circumstances were not well described, which violated the defendant’s rights.
