The public prosecutor’s office in Spain wants to end the investigation against Pedro Sanchez’s wife

Prosecutors in Madrid have asked a judge to drop a preliminary corruption investigation into the wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez as the pressure group behind the complaint says her allegations may be based on false media reports. The Guardian.

Sanchez, whose Socialist party has ruled Spain since 2018, shocked the country on Wednesday night by announcing he was considering resigning over what he described as a baseless “harassment and intimidation operation” waged against him and his wife by his political and media opponents.

The prime minister said the “seriousness of the attacks” he and his wife, Begonya Gomez, had been subjected to had caused him to reassess his position and that he would reveal his decision on Monday.
