Energy workers from TPP “Maritsa East” went to Sofia to protest before lunch – Around the world and in our country

Energy workers from the “Maritsa East” area protest in front of the buildings of the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers in Sofia.

Their demands are for postponing the liberalization of the electricity market and protecting their jobs. At that moment they leave with organized transport to the capital.

According to them, the state has abandoned them and the incompetence of politicians threatens their jobs. They also prepared suitcases as a sign that workers are leaving their homeland because of an incorrect policy.

“In my opinion, the Bulgarian energy sector has hit rock bottom. Unfortunately, we have been using the same slogans for 4 years in a row, which means that for 4 years Bulgarian politicians have not fulfilled their commitments to the workers at the Maritsa East TPP and coal plants in general. First of all of our demands is the postponement of the market liberalization, you know, in Bulgaria there are over 1.2 million energy poor. From July 1, if the market liberalization for household consumers enters, the sharp increase in the price of electricity will affect all households we are the poorest country in Europe and I don’t see the point of being the first to push to liberalize the market. We were lied to last year because our seven demands from October 3rd were real and the rulers agreed to fulfill them. However, none of the signed demands 8 months later “It has not been implemented yet,” explained the chairman of the National Security Council at Maritsa East TPP, Deyan Dyakov.
