Eleven deputies elected from the lists of the far-right Greek party “Spartans” will be tried on June 19 on charges of misleading voters during the parliamentary elections in Greece in 2023, Kathimerini reported.

The Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court of Greece brought charges of electoral fraud against 11 deputies from the far-right party “Spartans” at the beginning of the month.

A prosecutor from the Greek Supreme Court alleged that the MPs participated in the election under the leadership of convicted Ilias Kasidiaris, a former leading figure in the neo-Nazi group Golden Dawn, who is serving a total sentence of 13 years and six months for joining and leading a criminal organization.

Five of these eleven MPs are currently independent MPs in the Greek Parliament.

The Spartans party was barely featured in opinion polls ahead of the June 2023 elections until Kasidiaris endorsed it from his prison cell.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court disqualified the Spartans from running in June’s European Parliament elections, stating that Kasidiaris was their true leader.

Konstantinos Floros, one of the independent MPs elected from the Spartans list, was detained on Wednesday after attacking another MP in parliament during a debate on a defamation case.
