Municipal councilors from “Save Sofia” announced the introduction of a blue zone on Sundays in the center of the capital, as well as extending its duration on other days. As you know, it currently operates on weekdays and Saturdays between 8.30 and 20.00.

The proposal was made during the presentation of the project for the reorganization of traffic in the center between “Patriarch Evtimii” Blvd., “Fritjof Nansen” St. and “Vitosha” Blvd. As “Sega” already wrote, this project is being submitted for the second time after 2020 and is again causing tension between the Metropolitan Municipality and part of the residents in the described square. Today the deputy mayor of Sofia for transport Iliyan Pavlov, the deputy head of the transport commission in the municipal council Andrey Zografski from “Save Sofia”, the mayor of the “Sredets” district Traicho Traikov and municipal councilors from the largest group in SOS – PP/DB /”Save Sofia”, gave a press conference to explain what measures they plan to improve traffic and parking opportunities in the center.

“Save Sofia” did not comment on these crisis ideas during the election campaign for local government. They would hardly be liked not only by the people who live in the capital, but also by the guests of Sofia. In addition, they would hardly reduce the traffic in the capital on weekends, when many citizens like to spend part of their free time precisely in the city center. On the other hand, this will enable more money to enter the municipal budget, which would be good if it were used to improve the urban environment for the residents of Sofia.

The mayor of the “Sredets” district talked about introducing a red zone in the center of Sofia. With it, part of the parking spaces are reserved for those living in the relevant part of the city. “We have discussed at a rapid pace the idea of introducing a red zone, which would be designated with parking spaces for residents only,” he admitted.

The traffic reorganization project envisages the construction of a bus lane and two one-way bicycle lanes along “Patriarch Evtimii” Blvd., and the reduction of car lanes. The goal is to increase the speed of trolleybuses from the 6 lines that run along the “Patriarch”. The current detections of the municipality show that from the Notary to the Five Kishes the trolleys move at only 12 km.h. and that the bus lane will speed up their movement.

The changes will lead to a reduction in the number of parking spaces along the boulevard, which is why the authorities in Sofia promise to compensate by increasing the number of parking spaces on Vitosha Blvd. near the garden of the National Palace of Culture, where it is planned to replace parallel parking with diagonal parking. In addition, the CGM parking lot on Vitosha Blvd. will also be open for parking as a blue zone. The changes also include making the traffic on “Fritjof Nansen” two-way, and the bicycle lane on the sidewalk of “Vitosha” Blvd. going down to the roadway, in order to avoid conflict points between cyclists and pedestrians.

STANDING AND PARKING PROHIBITED

The Metropolitan Municipality announced that in connection with construction activities and the introduction of a new permanent organization of traffic along “Patriarch Evtimii” Blvd., “Vitosha” Blvd., “Prof. Fr. Nansen” and “Gen. Staying and parking are prohibited in Skobelev::
