The champion of Bulgaria Ludogorets and the winner of the Cup of the country Levski will face each other in a match for the Super Cup of Bulgaria today. The two teams meet at the Vasil Levski National Stadium from 20:00 hours.
The two teams had several battles with each other in the spring, with mixed success, with the Blues twice defeating Ludogorets in the Cup semi-finals on their way to the trophy, while the Eagles recorded two wins over that rival in the Championship. Now two of the new season’s title contenders renew their rivalry in a head-to-head clash for the trophy.
“I think that both teams have nothing to lose from this match, they won what they had to last season. Naturally, the team that has to win is Levski, because Ludogorets has won enough trophies in recent years, and Levski has not.” , Levski coach Stanimir Stoilov commented before the match.
“In Bulgarian football, it is difficult for anyone to surprise. We know all the clubs and coaches well. Both teams have claims to be leaders in Bulgaria and we are obliged to put on a football spectacle. Ludogorets abounds with players of an extremely high level, so I can hardly to distinguish someone, but of course, the Bulgarian players – Nedyalkov, Despodov, Delev, Yankov and Terziev. They deserve congratulations for the work they do as a club,” he added.
“The matches with Levski are derbies, they always have a special charge, very intense, with a lot of energy. I expect a different Levski compared to the last match we played for the championship,” said Ludogorets coach Ante Shimunja. “They have changed some players, but mainly they have kept their style of play. They will try to play their game. We have done a detailed analysis. The Super Cup is only one game. And it is during the season, but it is a very serious game. It is not about just for concentration or how we will accept this match, and this is a derby and that is absolutely enough,” the Slovenian added.
The Super Cup match is played without extra time, so in the event of a tie in regular time, it will go directly to a penalty shootout. The main referee of the match will be Georgi Kabakov with assistants Martin Margaritov and Diyan Valkov. Krasen Georgiev with assistant Dimo Valchev will be in charge of VAR.
