The Prime Minister of Kosovo: Due to the threats of Serbia and Russia, more NATO soldiers are urgently needed

“Due to threats from Serbia and Russia, it will be necessary to urgently increase the number of NATO troops in Kosovo.” This was stated by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, in an interview with the German newspaper “Welt”.

“It would also help us if more German soldiers joined the NATO Defense Force (KFOR). In this way, deterrence will increase,” he further commented.

Kosovo has increased defense spending by 52%, and the national security forces now have 5,000 soldiers and 3,000 reservists.

“There are 48 Serbian military bases around Kosovo, Russia and Serbia, which cooperate closely in military policy, BGNES reported. In 2021, they undertook 104 maneuvers and activities, in which the Belarusian armed forces partially participated,” the prime minister stressed.

As for the latest controversy over travel documents and license plates, Kurti remains firm in his stance but has also made a suggestion.

“The planned border controls for Serbian citizens who want to travel to Kosovo and the new regulations related to license plates will be mandatory and will apply indefinitely from September 1,” the prime minister reiterated. However, if “Serbia agrees to remove border controls in the future, then we will do the same.”

In connection with the violent protests at the end of July during the first attempt to introduce the new rules, Kurti made serious accusations against the Serbian government.

“The riots on July 31 were not caused by ordinary citizens of the Serbian minority in northern Kosovo, but by organized crime and oligarchs who are in the pay of Serbia and who, at a meeting in Belgrade, received instructions on what to do in Kosovo. It was a job order.
