The report states that the police saw the man speeding his bike, after which the Norwegian national broadcaster NRK was detained. A camera was fitted to his motorcycle and images were found showing the man riding his bike at top speed between July 2020 and May 2021.
The authorities focused only on the most extreme footage and charged the man with 56 serious speeding offences. In court, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison, along with a “lifetime” ban from holding a driving licence. However, such a ban in Norway would allow the party concerned to reapply for its license after five years.
The most extreme video was recorded on September 10, 2021. It shows the man breaking through a tunnel at a speed of 292 kilometers per hour. After testing the bike, police said the actual speed was closer to 263 km/h, but it was still 183 km/h too fast. Police also found footage of a man swerving to the right and driving at 210 km/h where the speed limit is 60.
The suspect claimed that he had been lending his motorcycle to others and that he was not the person in the videos. However, he did not say who was responsible for the violations. According to Norwegian media, the man was driving a 199-horsepower BMW S1000 RR from 2016. In Norway, fines are related to income, but Norwegian media did not mention the fine. The suspect’s lawyer said the motorcyclist would appeal the sentence.
