Atalanta missed out on returning to the top of the Italian league and had to settle for just a 1-1 draw at home to newcomers Cremonese. The visitors recorded their second point and knocked Sampdoria down to the penultimate place.

At the top are currently three teams with 14 points each, arranged only by their goal difference: Napoli, Atalanta and Milan.

The first half was quite positional for both teams, without many chances. But in the second half there was no shortage of emotions and both teams put in a lot of energy.

Thun Koopminers put the ball into Cremonese’s goal in the 63rd minute after an incredible free-kick, but the goal was disallowed by the video replay system for the benefit of the referees (VAR). However, referee Andrea Colombo disallowed the goal as he was told from the room that Caleb Okoli had been handballed. But La Dea, as Atalanta are nicknamed, continued their pressure and 11 minutes later they were 1-0 up. Merich Demiral headed in another free-kick from Koopminers.

But the hosts lost concentration minutes later when Juan Muso failed to clear the ball from Santiago Ascacibar’s shot. Emanuele Valery also sent the ball into the net during the extra. Atalanta tried to get another goal and exerted pressure in the last 10-12 minutes, but the guests from Cremonese demonstrated a solid defense.
