The coming winter will decide the future of Europe and the world. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after as part of an ongoing counteroffensive, his army retook key settlements in the Kharkiv region.
After Russian forces announced their withdrawal from Izyum, Balaklia and logistically key Kupyansk, explosions were heard in Kharkiv, the district’s central district, overnight. According to the Ukrainian media, it was fired from Russia’s Belgorod Region, as two of the rockets fell inside Ukraine’s second-largest citywrites BNR.
Stoltenberg: The war in Ukraine is entering a critical phase
Earlier, the Ukrainian head of state announced the return of two more settlements in Kharkiv regionand in his regular evening address stated: “The movement of our military in different directions of the front continues. Currently, within the framework of the active actions since the beginning of September, almost 2 thousand kilometers of our territory have been freed. These days, the Russian army is demonstrating what it does best – showing its back. After all, it’s not a bad choice for them to run. There is no place for occupiers in Ukraine and there will not be“.
According to Zelensky, the coming winter will decide the future of Europe and the world, because Russia will do everything to break the Ukrainian resistance. For this reason, the Ukrainian army also needs systematic supplies of weapons, and sanctions against Moscow must be strengthened, Zelensky also said.
Russian forces that left Kharkiv region were redirected to Donetsk. According to the head of the separatist authorities in the district, the situation on the front is “tense, but under control”. Denis Pushilin, quoted by TASS, claims that Ukrainian forces are sending untrained soldiers into Donbas, which is why they are suffering heavy losses, and Russian forces are advancing in various areas. Pushilin accused Ukraine of shelling neighborhoods of Donetsk itself.
In Energodar, the town of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, there is already electricity and water. This was announced by its Ukrainian mayor Dmytro Orlov. Utilities were disrupted along with shelling in the plant area, which Russia and Ukraine have been blaming.
340 billion dollars – this is the value of the damage of the war so far, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal. He stated that the number was also confirmed by the World Bank, a the funds needed to restore the country are currently about 105 billion dollars.
Russia postponed referendums on annexation of Ukrainian territories
It also became clear that the Russian authorities have decided to postpone indefinitely the holding of referendums on the accession to Russia of the self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LPR and DPR). Referendums are also postponed in the occupied Ukrainian regions – Zaporozhye, Kharkiv and Kherson (in them the Russian occupiers previously formed a so-called military-civilian administration). This was reported by the “Meduza” site, citing two sources close to the Kremlin, writes “Now”.
The sources clarify that the only reason for this decision is the successful counteroffensive of the Ukrainian troops in the Kharkiv direction. And they emphasize that the Kremlin-related political technologists working in the Kharkiv and Zaporozhye regions have already been recalled: “…everyone hastily left. The order came to return home“. For now, only the Russian administrators remain in the Kherson region.
At the beginning of September, the Secretary of the General Council of the “United Russia” party, the First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, Andrey Turchak, announced that the referendums would be “properly and symbolically” held on November 4, on the Day of People’s Unity. And the representatives of the occupation “military-civilian administrations” in the territories controlled by Russia supported this idea.
It was the first time a specific date was mentioned by a Russian civil servant of such a high rank. According to Medusa initially the plan was to annex the mentioned territories as early as April, then there was already talk of May, mostly because of the failures on the front. Subsequently, the referendums were supposed to be today (September 11), when there are regional elections in Russia.
And this date was not observed, so the new one – November 4 – was appointed. However, according to Meduza’s sources, “there is no word” of a referendum until the end of November. Now everything depends on the course of the military actions, and Putin’s press secretary – Dmitry Peskov, did not answer the publication’s questions about the referendums.
