Student protest in Athens, September 14, 2022.
Students in Greece protest again against the presence of police in universities.
They do not want the presence of uniforms on student campuses.
With the decision of the parliament for security in higher education institutions, police teams are patrolling. The police were met by student protests against the presence of uniformed officers at universities. Since early this morning, a ring of students at the University of Thessaloniki has prevented the police from entering the university buildings. Riot special forces had to intervene. Late last night, students protested en masse in Athens.
All student organizations said that the presence of the police was an expression of control over them and violated their rights to free expression of ideas.
The introduction of security police is a government decision after many cases of threats to teachers and hooliganism in universities. However, the students said they will protest until the police leave all universities in the country.
The opposition parties supported the students’ actions.
