Sanctions against Russia, energy crisis, inflation – the cold winter is just around the corner. For the EU’s chief diplomat, Josep Borrell, 75, it can’t be cold enough. Now is the time to prove that we are ready to die for the ideals of democracy.

It is also reported that Borrell called the temperature in the apartments of over 17 degrees Celsius “a crime against European values”, informs exxpress.at, quoted by “Voices”.

He was quoted as saying: “We are faced with a choice between freedom and comfort. We have talked a lot about being ready to die for the ideals of democracy, now is the time to prove it.”

In general, Borel is not known for his subtlety. A few weeks ago, the chief diplomat of the European Union once again caused a stir.

During a European Diplomatic Academy event in Bruges, Borrell compared Europe to a garden while the rest of the world is a jungle.

No wall or fence in the world will protect the garden. The jungle grows too fast and so the wall will never be high enough.

Therefore the Europeans must enter the jungle. “Otherwise the rest of the world will attack us in other ways and by other means,” he said. Critics accused him of colonialism, saying his appeals sounded like they were from the 18th or 19th century.
