Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni mentioned in a phone call fatigue on the part of the international community in its support for Ukraine and complained of a lack of support for Italy, which is facing migrant pressures. Meloni thought she was saying this to the chairman of the African Union Commission, but it turned out that she had become another victim of Vovan and Lexus – the Russian duo, who have tailored a similar number to a number of Western leaders and celebrities, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
The 13-minute audio recording was released today, but the conversation took place on September 18 – ahead of meetings between the Italian prime minister and African leaders at the annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Meloni’s office condemned the prank.
“I see that there is great fatigue, I must say the truth, from all sides. We are close to the moment when everyone will understand that we have to find a way out,” the Italian Prime Minister says in the recording. She explains that “the problem is to find a solution that is acceptable to both sides of the conflict without violating international law,” she told the Russian pranksters.
As for the influx of migrants to Italy through the Mediterranean, Meloni complained in the conversation that the country does not receive enough support from its foreign partners. “They are all of the opinion that Italy has to solve this problem alone. This is a very stupid way of thinking,” she said.
Lexus, whose real name is Alexey Stolyarov, commented that the Italian Prime Minister was frank, “unlike many other European politicians who behave like some kind of programmed robots and only express positions that are expressed only in their circles”.
The Russian prankster clarified that it was he who had the conversation and Vovan was listening.
Giorgia Meloni, who has been Italy’s prime minister for a year, broke up with her TV presenter boyfriend last month after an off-air video of him using abusive language and appearing to flirt with her colleague was published.
