During the seven-day operation, Serbian police detained 3,400 illegal migrants and arrested two Kosovo Albanians on suspicion of trafficking illegal migrants and supplying weapons, Belgrade’s Beta news agency reported, citing a statement from the Ministry of Interior in Belgrade.
The announcement states that illegal migrants have been hiding in border areas to reach EU countries through trafficking channels.
During searches in areas around the Serbian towns of Subotica, Kikinda, Sombor and Pirot, police found five automatic rifles, five pistols, over 1,550 rounds of ammunition, as well as 362 foreign passports and a small amount of drugs.
In addition, ladders that the migrants used to jump over the fence on the Serbian-Hungarian border, as well as dugouts where they hid, were also found.
