Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić-Radman unsuccessfully tried to kiss his German counterpart Analena Berbok on Thursday at the EU ministerial summit in Berlin, for which he had to apologize, Germany’s Bild reported.

The conference on European affairs took place on Thursday in Berlin. European foreign ministers gathered at the event to discuss the development of the European Union and its possible enlargement.

“Now, however, everyone is talking about something else. An attack on Foreign Minister Analena Burbock with kisses,” the newspaper wrote, publishing a group photo of the ministers, with Berbock standing in the center and Grlić-Radman to her left. He holds his colleague’s hand and tries to kiss her, appearing to reach for Berbok’s lips as she tries to turn away.

According to Bild, the head of the Croatian Foreign Ministry was late for the photo session and appeared at the moment when the other ministers had already greeted each other. The publication, referring to Berbock’s entourage, specified that “it was a clumsy attempt to say hello quickly”. According to the newspaper, Grlić-Radman has already apologized, saying that he just wanted to greet his colleague “in a human way”.

Media in the Balkans and users on social networks condemned the act of the Croatian minister, some even declared it sexual harassment.
