Recently, new drones appeared in Russia – “Izdeliye-53”, which is supposed to be a new version of “Lancet” and can self-direct to the target, and “Izdeliye-54” – the so-called “Italmas” or “mowers” for grass”.

The representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Andrey Yusov, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, told what Ukrainian intelligence knows about them and what danger they pose.

In particular, he noted that there has not yet been mass use of these drones on the front, so information about their characteristics is still being clarified.

Risk

“As for their ability to automatically adjust, guide and recognize a target, this is a controversial issue. This information needs to be further explored,” noted Yusov.

According to him, there is some information from Russian media, but it cannot be relied on.

“However, we note that modified, improved lancets are used by the Russians. And this is always an additional risk factor,” emphasizes Yusov.

Do it yourself

Earlier, analysts of the American Institute for the Study of War reported that Russia uses not only Iranian Shahed-136/131 drones for attacks against Ukraine, but also cheaper analogues of its own production.

According to experts, drones of “unspecified type”, which the Russians make from plywood and engines from AliExpress, could pose a real problem for the Ukrainian air defense system.
