US House of Representatives Representative Rashida Tlaib, the first-ever Palestinian member of the US Congress, accused US President Joe Biden of supporting “genocide” against the Palestinians and warned him that this would have consequences in next year’s presidential election, Reuters reported. .
In a video published on the X social network, Tlaib, representing the state of Michigan, from the Democratic Party, which Biden also belongs to, again called on the president to support a ceasefire in the nearly month-long war between Israel and the radical Palestinian movement Hamas.
“Joe Biden supported the genocide of the Palestinian people,” Tlaib says in the video, which includes photos of people killed and injured by Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip, footage of pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the US, an excerpt from a video of Biden declaring his support for Israel, and footage of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanking the US president.
Reuters pointed out that the White House did not comment directly on what Tlaib said, but instead reiterated its position on a temporary “humanitarian pause” in the fighting in the Gaza Strip.
“As we have said before, we want the pause to allow humanitarian aid to reach the Palestinian population and the hostages to be freed. What we do not support is a call for Israel to stop defending itself against Hamas terrorists,” the Council of National security to the White House.
“Americans will not forget Biden, support the ceasefire now or don’t count on us next year!” Tlaib said.
“Mr. President, the American people are not with you on this issue. We will remember this in 2024,” she added.
