Ukraine has seized the initiative from Russia in the Black Sea. Ukrainian forces have forced the Russian navy and warships to withdraw, thanks to the use of drones. This was announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, quoted by Reuters.
For the first time in the world, it was in the Black Sea that a flotilla of naval drones began to operate – a Ukrainian flotilla, he explained.
According to him, in the early days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Moscow blocked Ukrainian Black Sea ports and damaged port infrastructure and grain export infrastructure, disrupting world food markets. However, in the course of the war, Ukraine managed to change the balance of power, Zelensky added.
The Ukrainian head of state thanked for the support of Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and Moldova, which border the Black Sea. We were able to show that cooperation between the countries of the Black Sea region, with the support of partners, can restore stability to the world food market. We have managed to secure such protection of the western part of the Black Sea, which now allows the functioning of our maritime export corridors. The Danube region is also gaining new importance. It is also crucial for global security, Zelensky added.
After Moscow left the grain deal that allowed for the safe passage of grain from Ukraine, Kiev created an alternative corridor. Through it, the country was able to export 4 million metric tons of grain.
