The ruling party in Scotland today once again expressed its readiness to return it to the European Union, if one day it wins its independence from the United Kingdom, France Press reported, quoted by BTA.
The Scottish National Party (SNP) has said it will apply to join the EU as soon as possible after achieving Scottish independence, according to a document published today outlining the party’s strategy.
“We Scots have found ourselves outside the EU against our will” because of Brexit, despite the majority of us voting to remain in the EU in the 2016 referendum, Scottish culture and foreign affairs minister Angus Robertson said in the introduction to the document.
In 2014, Scots voted against secession from the United Kingdom, but supporters of Scottish independence say leaving the EU has had a negative impact on Scots.
“Scotland will be in an advantageous position to quickly and smoothly fulfill the requirements for accession” to the EU, the document of the Scottish National Party also states.
