Russian troops have entrenched themselves in Bogdanovka, but the Ukrainian Armed Forces can still defend Chasov Yar

Russian troops have been able to entrench themselves in the Bohdanovka area, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are still able to defend Chasov Yar, except for its eastern outskirts. This is according to a new report by the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW)reports RBC-Ukraine.

On April 21, Russian troops continued to attack Chasov Yar and the surrounding area, but made no progress.

Positional battles continued:

In the area of ​​Chasov Yar, including in the micro-districts of Novi and Kanal;

Northeast of Chasov Yar in the area of ​​Bogdanovka;

Southeast of Chasov Yar in the region of Ivanovskoe, Klescheevka and Shumov;

South of Chasov Yar in the area of ​​Yuzhny, New York and Alexandropol.

The Ukrainian military announced that the Russian troops did not enter Chasov Yar itself, and the spokesman of the Ukrainian troop group “Khortytsa”, Lt. Col. Nazar Voloshin, stated that the forces of Moscow are actively using combat equipment, aviation and infantry to advance on the Bakhmut direction.

A Ukrainian National Guard officer noted that the VSU can still protect Chasov Yar itself, unlike its eastern outskirts, which “have been uninhabited and indefensible for a long time” as they were “virtually destroyed a year ago” and have no strong fortifications.

The Ukrainian National Guard officer added that Russian troops are not fully in control of Ivanovskoe and are trying to advance through the lowlands north of the town.

The Ukrainian officer estimated that the Russian forces used guided bombs, artillery and rocket launchers (MLRS) before launching a ground attack on Chasov Yar to create favorable conditions for an attack by destroying the defense positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The officer from the Ukrainian National Guard added that the Russian military command is serious about the capture of Chasov Yar, as Russian troops have successfully trained newly mobilized personnel, deployed the most combat-ready units in the direction of Chasov Yar and are constantly forming reserves to replace the heavy losses the storming of the settlement.
