For a year now, Kadyrov’s state of health has raised many questions – something that he and those around him stubbornly deny. But there are things that cannot be hidden, namely dramatic changes in the Chechen’s appearance, behavior and work schedule, Novaya Gazeta Evropa writes.
Kadyrov is ill and the Kremlin is facing a serious problem – how to most painlessly prepare in the most difficult region of Russia for the change of power that may happen in the near future, the publication summarizes.

A common cold, however, treated with intravenous injections
According to the publication’s sources, Kadyrov was first diagnosed with pancreatic necrosis in January 2019. At the time, he announced that he had been forced to take time off due to “temporary incapacity” – mild malaise, fever and flu, but for an unclear reason it was necessary to give him “intravenous injections for only two days (quote by Kadyrov – ed. note)”. The announcement about the treatment of a common cold with intravenous injections caused confusion among many at the time, and in the fall of 2019 it already became a serious suspicion, Novaya Gazeta Europa adds.
In October 2019, Kadyrov disappeared from public view and reports of his deteriorating health due to alleged poisoning appeared on Telegram channels. This was immediately denied on Instagram by Kadyrov’s aide Ahmed Dudayev. He wrote that “Kadyrov is an ordinary person who can also get sick, get bruises, catch the flu and the like.”
Holidays due to temporary incapacity for work are becoming more frequent
But in January 2020, Kadyrov was again forced to take leave due to “temporary incapacity”. And again, according to the official version, he had “minor health problems”, which, however, for some reason had to be treated with a “course of intravenous injections” in Moscow.
In 2019, few people paid attention to the fact that Kadyrov had lost weight, but the sudden weight loss was the first symptom of actively developing pancreatic necrosis. The disease is painful, difficult to treat and has a high mortality rate.

Since 2019, at least twice a year, Kadyrov undergoes regular, including surgical, procedures at the Central Clinical Hospital of the Administrative Department of the President of the Russian Federation.

In the spring of 2022, Kadyrov’s health began to deteriorate sharply, but this topic became “top” in 2023.
Even the most inattentive observer could not fail to notice how, as a result of kidney failure and fluid stagnation in the lungs (consequences of the underlying disease), Kadyrov suddenly gained weight, the shape of his abdomen took on all the signs of pancreatogenic ascites, he developed terrible shortness of breath, began to have difficulty speaking, walking slowly, dressing too warmly for the Chechen climate, the publication lists.
At that time, Kadyrov began to disappear from public space at the most inopportune moments. And in September 2023, he was admitted to intensive care with acute lung failure, which developed as a result of an overdose with the tranquilizer Dormicum. Kadyrov reportedly drank it because he suffered from severe pain, insomnia and increased anxiety. Its excessive use can lead to breathing problems, which necessitated Kadyrov’s hospitalization. He even had to be placed in a medically induced coma.

On September 20, 2023, a video appeared on social networks showing Kadyrov sitting in a hospital room by the bedside of his uncle Magomed. Kadyrov himself in this video does not say anything and barely moves. According to the official version, at that time Kadyrov was in Moscow “on a business trip” and visited his sick uncle.
According to the publication, in September of last year, Kadyrov also underwent an MRI of the brain, which showed that the disease had seriously affected him.
