On April 22, Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced that its forces had taken control of Novmihailovka. The city is located south of Marinka and northeast of Ugledar in the Donetsk region. This is stated in the latest intelligence report of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain.

It is noted that Novomihailovka has limited military strategic importance, but it is located on the road to other settlements that stretch on both sides of the Suhi Yali River in the southern part of Donetsk Oblast.

Russian forces reportedly entered the city on 9 February and reached its center by 24 March. The 79th Assault Taurian Brigade said it required 30,000 Russian troops with loss of 300 units of equipment during the six months of fighting on the approach to the city.

From entering to clearing the city, a total distance of less than 5 kilometers, it took Russian forces 73 days. This has benefited additional operating reserves.

According to British intelligence, it shows the slow but methodical advance of Russian forces. Along this axis, Russian forces are likely to seek to advance towards the town of Konstantinovka, 2 km west of Novomykhaylovka.

The British MoD states that a further advance north of Ugledar may eventually allow the city’s defenses to be encircledwhich caused extremely heavy losses to the Russian ground forces.
