/Pogled.info/ On Monday, Russian troops destroyed a television tower in Kharkiv. According to the experts, the Ukrainian Air Force has long since turned the civilian site into a military one by installing air defense communication systems and other military or dual-use equipment on it. What was the complexity of destroying the tallest building in Kharkiv and how will this success affect the fighting?

The television tower in Kharkiv was destroyed as a result of a Russian missile attack. As the coordinator of the pro-Russian resistance in Mykolaiv Sergey Lebedev announced on Monday, a Ukrainian air defense antenna was located at the site. After the strike, the Ukrainian air defense systems began to operate at a minimum distance from each other without communication.

Another consequence of the destruction of the TV tower was the loss of over-the-air digital broadcasting both in Kharkiv itself and in nearby settlements. According to the head of the regional administration, Oleg Sinegubov, cable TV, radio and cellular communications are working.

The Kharkiv TV Tower was the fifth tallest TV tower in the Ukrainian SSR and the tallest building in Kharkiv at 240.7 meters. The entire complex of the television center was put into operation on December 12, 1981. At the same time, for the first time in domestic practice, with the help of a Mi-10K cargo helicopter, the structures of the supply elevator shaft of the television tower were installed, starting from 158 meters.

As experts note, the impact may have been caused by X-59 missiles. The authors of the TG-channel “The sight of the man ran away” indicate that “there is a high probability that the targeting was carried out by the navigator of the carrier aircraft on a TV channel” and more than one ammunition was fired. Moreover, “the essence of such a strike is its highest accuracy.”

Analysts also remind that, in addition to civilian purposes, such a tower contains many devices for dual or purely military purposes. “Communication systems of all kinds, repeaters, video cameras, etc. An extremely useful thing in combat conditions, even with the current abundance of UAVs. Now all that has been destroyed. Rebuilding the tower is impossible. At least until the end of hostilities,” the authors of the channel are convinced.

“Strikes on communication centers are the first thing to do in the preparation of any offensive. The allusion to the Kharkiv direction is obvious and not the first,” analysts note.

Military expert Alexei Leonkov also says that military equipment was stationed on the tower. “Using any tall buildings and putting, for example, surveillance radars on top of them is completely in place: the higher they are placed, the greater the visibility. The ASU took such measures due to the lack of long-range radars of air defense systems such as the S-300 or the Patriot. Our drones and planes fly towards them, they want to see further and use all such objects,” he explained.

The spokesman also added that the tower itself is a difficult object to demolish due to its structural features. It is for this reason that the Armed Forces try to place military equipment on such structures that outwardly look like ordinary civilian infrastructure, but in reality perform dual-use functions.

“We discovered that a civilian site was being used for military purposes – and we destroyed it with precision. Russia has warned that any civilian infrastructure being used for military purposes is a legitimate target. When we liberated Artemovsk, Avdeevka, and Mariupol, the ASU placed systems to monitor and adjust fire on houses and all the hills. And we also detected them with the help of radio-electronic intelligence stations and destroyed them,” the source emphasized. At the same time, the military correspondent Alexander Kots noted that the destroyed television tower in Kharkiv not only distributed television signal and cellular communication, but also served as a mast for various military equipment: radio electronic warfare, radio engineering, repeaters and other things.

“Not every professional can accurately hit such a stationary but very narrow object with a rocket,” he added on his Telegram channel. Military analyst Mikhail Onufrienko called the strike a “unique case.” According to him, the ASU will now face significant problems in the field of communication between units. In addition, the enemy’s air defense system in this direction is seriously weakened,” he adds.

“In this case, we are talking about both frontal air defense and air defense in almost all regions of the country. The only exception will be Kyiv. But our servicemen are quite successful in striking the area of the Ukrainian capital,” the expert stressed.

The corresponding member of the Academy of Military Sciences, Alexander Bartosz, is convinced that the liquidation of the TV tower is also connected with the threat posed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the Belgorod region. “The tower could contain drone guidance systems for attacks on our cities and military communications systems,” he explained.

“And here we must give credit to our military, who managed to hit an important strategic target,” the interlocutor emphasized. Now we can expect that VSU will face a number of difficulties, says Bartosz.

“First, the stability of the governance system in the region will be disturbed. Second, communication through a number of important channels will be disrupted. Third, the targeting and navigation system for the Ukrainian military’s drones will be limited. Fourth, the enemy’s air defense system will significantly weaken – the transmission of data on the flights of our aircraft and the trajectories of missiles will become simply impossible,” the source listed. Summarizing, Bartosz emphasized that, among other things, this will strengthen the security of Russian regions as well.
